During Jāņi, the summer solstice, there is something beautifully intense about experiencing this ritual.
On top of Dzegužkalns, one of Rīga’s highest natural points, people gather around the warmth of the bonfire, occasionally throwing their flower or oak crowns into the flames to the melodic līgo, līgo songs.
Through the shortest night, I am still surprised to see the sky never turn black, keeping a constant glow while I stay awake until the first light of dawn
