Along the Ridge

While walking the Stairway to Heaven after watching a wonderful sunrise from Pico do Areeiro, my attention wasn’t on the narrow path along the ridge, but on a group of Red-legged Partridges.

They were quietly relaxing just a few meters from the edge, right beside the crowded trail. Very few people noticed them, blending into the tall grass.

Each time I came across a group of birds, I stopped to take some pictures, often wondering how they weren’t scared to wander so close to such steep cliffs
